Hermann Hesse was a German-Swiss writer and poet. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946. Hesse was very interested in Eastern religions, spiritual ideas, and philosophy. He also studied Jungian psychology, which looks at the mind and human behavior. These interests had a strong influence on the books he wrote.
